For those of you old enough to begin considering careers what careers are you looking at going into? Do you think that botball will affect that career much?

As I have gone through school I have found that I enjoy helping others learn, though I tend to have problems helping people who do not care about learning. I also like to learn so I was thinking maybe some kind of research based field. My primary interests are in math, science and computer science.
I think that botball could help me with how it gave me a low level platform to work with and a programming based challenge. I have enjoyed and learned a lot working through the games and working on lower level stuff on the robot. This has taught me a lot, and if I can get a GCER paper on something I think that can help me a lot later on.

I am looking at mechanical engineering as a major, and then really anywhere from that.

Botball has shown me that it is not so much what I'm working on that gets me excited, but rather the process of working on a long complex task that gets me going. I love thinking and mulling strategies over and figuring out what other teams will do, what we can do, and what we should do. My favorite part about Botball is that there is no limit to the planning that can take place.
While I couldn't explicitly use it in a resume as such, I see Botball as prime work experience. I have a job at Toys R Us, but I have learned unbelievably more about working with others, working under and as an authority, time management, and adaptability to new situations in Botball than I ever could in retail.

Botball gives you the opportunity to work as a team and learn the process of teamwork. The Botball spirit is essential to whatever profession you meant to work on. And besides, who doesn't want to catch the eyes of the guys who sponsor botball. Might get you a full ride to college. Now that I think of that, I'm sure Jeremy has a full ride scholarship.

Through robotics, I have decided not to be a regular teacher, but to actually be an engineer. When I have taught some programming classes for not only students but also adults, they have told me that I should become a professor on something in technology because of the way I teach the information and how much I know about the subject in general. Because of robotics (from Botball and FIRST LEGO League), I am pretty sure that I will not have much problems with getting into a good-paying, fun engineering/programming career.
Just like YuSheng said, robotics teaches teamwork skills, which is involved in whatever career you decide to go into, from farming, to customer service, to teaching, and to engineering!
Robotics is a life-changer; it has changed hundreds of thousands of young scholars' lives. In fact, it is thought to be that 90% of the careers of the next century will somehow involve something about technology.

I am planning on either joining a branch of the military or a robotics type job. I have been doing advance air soft for about 5 years, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I know that military is a very unusual choice for a 7th grader, but I feel that I could tackle the task. Being in the military is very honorable job. However I have been enjoying robotics as well. Robotics and military are two completely different job types. However they are what I enjoy, and a career is something that you enjoy.

Benjamin, robotics does have something to do with the military. There is a robotic branch in the military which is in charge of the drones and they design new innovated designs on battleships, jet planes, and new tanks. So, if you like engineering, you could go into the military with engineering in mind.

Oh yeah! That completely forgot about that! Thanks for the idea! Basically all of my family has been in the military at one point, so I feel I should continue the train. Again thanks for the info!

well, in my family we didn't really had jobs my mom and dad moved to america about 20-25 years ago, my mom is a teacher and my dad is an engineer who works for the water district, before that my family were Hindu "priests" we made money by doing the equivalent of "sermons" so I want to do something with programming like a software designer!!!

Looks like all of you have dreams. Me, sadly, with my Odin eye, already realizes that my own future is doomed. All of my endeavors revolve around one single, temporary, mortal, feeling or emotion as you want to call it. After that is gone, my interests spread and I become a novice again. I feel happy for all of your success. For deciding your future is the first step among many that leads toward the road of success.

YuSheng, you are the smartest person I know. You are smarter than most adults I know. You can get many jobs that I can't even try to get. You WILL succeed in life. You just need understand how smart you are. Just go with you feel is the best for you and your future family.
