OpenOffice has quite a powerful plugin framework for you to work with. I have no experience with it, but I know it exists and I'm sure there are resources online to help out.
As a sidenote I would recommend LibreOffice over OpenOffice currently. It is a fork with more active development and starting to get more widespread adoption.

I included Libopenoffice. OO SDK are no working samples and it was to difficult.
